On Wednesday evening 16 February the annual Gala of the Harps took place in theatre ‘t Spant in Bussum (Holland).
During this gala the golden en silver harp awards and the export award of Dutch music foundation Conamus are presented.
This year Jan Akkerman received a “Golden Harp” for his complete oeuvre.
All winners performed with musical support of the Metropole Orchestra conducted by Dick Bakker.
At first the winners of the silver harps entered the stage, after them those who won the export award and finally the winners of the golden harps were honored. Jan was the last performing artist.
For each winner there was someone who read a part from the report of the jury and presented the award to him or her.
In Jan’s case this person was Hans Marx.
After Jan’s word of thanks, in which he let his fans be a part of this award, it was his turn to play with the Metropole Orchestra. For this special occasion his band members bass player Wilbrand Meischke, drummer Marijn van den Berg and keyboard player Coen Molenaar were members of the orchestra. The arrangements were made by Tom Salisbury (producer of Jan’s cd Focus in Time).
They played a medley of somgs from Jan’s oeuvre: Russian spy and I (of his band the Hunters), Streetwalker, Piétons, Tranquillizer, Urbanstring and finally Jan's world famous hit with the band Focus: Hocus Pocus.
Especially during the last song the audience completely went wild and was
and the audience was rocking and grooving along!
All together it was a unique gig!
